Functioning Anxiety – 2016

functioning-anxiety-1 functioning-anxiety-2functioning-anxiety-4-2New piece of automata from donated leftover studio materials from Pam Markman’s collection of acrylic pieces. I wanted to play with mirrors, prisms and light so I combined them with the acrylic, paper clay, springs and transparencies to produce this piece that represents the anxiety of producing artwork. Its a simple cam mechanism with a push rod that raises the top of the head while a rod that pierces the cam pushes the suspended hands up and forward (a twofer!) I learned you can cut the acrylic with your Dremmel. I could do ads for their tools, they allow me to explore so many materials. A must have!
